How To Send Text Messages To A Group

Clix Group Manager

Here’s how you can get started sending text messages to a group of people such as your coworkers, teammates, etc.

You’ll need to have and android mobile phone and a GMail.com email account.  Once you have these two, follow the steps below to send a text message to a group.

1. Set a group up in your gmail account.

2. Click contacts in your gmail account and then add a new group by clicking on the add group button on the upper left.

3. Switch to the All Contacts group and select the contacts that you want to add to your new group.

4. Once you have selected all the contacts that you want to add to your new group, click the groups button.

5. Select your new group.  This will add the contacts you selected to your new group.

6. Once your contacts have been added to your new group, you’re ready to start with the android phone.

7.  Download Clix Group Manager from the Android Market.

8. Once you have downloaded Clix, you’re ready to start sending texts.

9. When you open Clix, you’ll see a list of the groups that are available. Press and hold your finger on the name of the group you’d like to send a text to and then press “Text Group.”

10. You’ll see the text message app appear with all the names of the group members in the To field.  Enter your message in the body and then send it.  That’s it, you’ve just sent a text to your entire group.

Be advised.  Your mobile phone carrier’s rates for sending text messages  may apply.

    Two questions:
    1) What’s the upper limit? In other words, how many people can I send an SMS to?
    2) Does this work with Messaging apps other than the one that came with my phone (Samsung Epic)? I’m using Handcent, for instance.

    Thanks.

1.The upper limit on this is usually set by your mobile phone carrier. Although if you were to select a huge number of contacts, it might lock your phone up.
    2. Yes it will work with handcent. You just have to select which app you want to handle your text messaging.

    Hmmm.

I’ve been trying to do this for a while with Handcent, w/NO luck. I’ve sent questions to a couple forums trying to get help w/this, but noone’s stepped up to the plate. Here’s the text of what I asked:

    Greetings Benevolent Handcent Experts:

I’m wondering how to send a text to a group of ~500 people, on my Samsung Epic. Here’s what I’ve tried:

    Created a Google group
    Compose the message
Go to the “plus sign” at the upper right
    Select “Group”
Select the Group I want to send the message to (either by the checkbox on the left, or the arrow on the right/menu/select all)

What happens every time is a “Please wait, checking all contact” message pops up, then I’m returned to the composing screen. NO contacts are entered in the “To” field.

How do I make this work? Thanks in advance,
    G

Your phone carrier may have an upper limit on how many texts you can send at one time. Check that first. Have you tried Clix Group Manager? If it doesn’t work for you, the market will supposedly let you get a refund within 15 minutes of your purchase.
